Frequently Asked Questions

Marriage and Family Therapy

1. What does a Marriage and Family Therapist do?
MFTs help individuals, couples, and families strengthen relationships, manage stress, and overcome emotional challenges.
2. Do I need to be married to see a Marriage and Family Therapist?
Not at all. I work with individuals, couples (married or not), families, teens, and children.
3. What kinds of issues can therapy help with?
Therapy supports communication issues, anxiety, depression, parenting stress, infidelity, life changes, and trauma.
4. How long does therapy usually take?
It varies. Some clients feel better after a few sessions; others prefer longer-term support. We’ll find what works for you.
5. Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
Yes—except in rare cases involving safety concerns. Your privacy is always respected.
6. Can you fix my partner or family member?
Therapy isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about discovering patterns and working together to create positive change.
7. What if my partner or family member won’t come?
That’s okay. Individual therapy can still improve your relationships—even if others aren’t ready yet.
8. Do you give advice or just listen?
Both. I listen deeply and offer practical tools and strategies to help you move forward.
9. Will therapy make things worse before they get better?
Sometimes. Processing difficult emotions can be tough at first, but it’s a key step in healing—and we move at your pace.
10. How do I get started?
Just reach out through the Contact page or send an email. We’ll set up a consultation to see if we’re a good fit—no pressure.
